Today’s task involves some creative writing! You will be writing a poem about anything you like. It doesn’t have to be long and it doesn’t have to rhyme.

Below are some examples of what you could write your poem about:

  • The plants/flowers you have looked at as part of our ‘I’m Alive’ topic.
  • An animal that you have looked at as part of our ‘I’m Alive’ topic.
  • Your family.
  • Things you have been doing during lockdown.
  • A pirate (use the poem you looked at on Monday to help you).
  • A holiday you have been on.

For today’s task you will be doing some research on people, plants and animals that are endangered. Choose one of the above topics and create a poster, PowerPoint, video…whatever you like!

Start by thinking about these questions:

Who looks after the world’s people, plants and animals?

Is each country responsible for their own people, plants and animals? If one country decided to cut down all its forests could other countries interfere?

As the world becomes more global (people working and doing things together across the world) and industrial (using machines and technology), traditional (older) ways of life are being lost.

You could research the following peoples:

  • Kung San of southern Africa
  • Ethnic groups of Papua Guinea
  • Tuareg nomads of northern Africa
  • Kayapo of the Brazilian rainforest

Or you can choose to research an animal or a plant that is endangered.

  • ngkids.co.uk/places – National Geographic website has child-friendly information about different countries, people and animals.
  • iucn.org – International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) website details what, where and how they work to find solutions to the challenges threatening the environment. (Useful for adults.)
  • wwf.org.uk – World Wide Fund for Nature website provides details of its work in more than 90 countries to conserve endangered species and habitats.
  • www.unep.org/wed – United Nations Environment Programme website features information on World Environment Day and how different cities celebrate. (Useful for adults.)

Here are your Phonics and Spelling tasks for today:

  1. Complete the tasks shown in the pictures below.
  2. Log onto Phonics Play and go to Children -> Phase 5 -> Flashcards Speed Trial -> Phases 3 & 5A. If you want another challenge, select Phase 5a instead of Phases 3 & 5A.

There are two challenges for today’s task. Start with the first one and then continue onto the second if you would like a further challenge! There is also an optional extension task at the bottom.

Read the poem below and underline all the words that begin with the ‘qu’ sound. Then fill in the blanks.

Challenge 2

Circle the words in the barn that have the ‘ar’ sound. Then use some of the words to complete the sentences. Add the letters in the box on the left to ‘ear’ to make six words that have the ‘ear’ sound.

Extension

Write some sentences using the ‘qu’, ‘ar’ and ‘ear’ sounds. Draw some pictures to go with them!

For today’s Science task you will be thinking about all the things that humans need to stay healthy. Staying healthy is an important part of looking after our bodies and to make sure we can enjoy life as much as possible!

For this task choose one of the topics below to do some research. You can present your research in any way that you like – you could create a poster, a PowerPoint or even a video!

Food – you could take photographs or videos, or draw pictures of all the healthy foods or meals they have eaten at home or at school, e.g. you might take a photograph of their healthy breakfast or evening meal or you could plan and prepare a healthy meal.

(As an extra challenge you could find out where the food you eat comes from originally. For example, when you drink milk, or eat eggs, do you know which animals these foods come from?)
